I have had the opportunity and good fortune to work with Petersen Engineering over the past five or so years on a variety of significant multi-family developments, each of which has been vastly improved as a direct result of the firm’s continued commitment to rational engineering practice, enhanced sustainability, and delivery of service with a calm, composed, professional demeanor.
Throughout the design and completion of developments totaling over $250 million in construction dollars, Petersen Engineering has shown a rare ability to deliver design solutions which bridge the many, and often conflicting, requirements of multi-family residential mechanical design (i.e. initial cost effectiveness, energy efficiency, and long-term operational sustainability).
In addition to their high level of professional competence, and as importantly for us and our firm in today’s frenetic development pace, the team at Petersen Engineering has continually performed their services with a rational and assured manner for the whole gamut of our wide-ranging client personalities. Their ability to calmly navigate these many unique client cultures in a manner which continually results in the highest caliber product is truly a testament to the firm’s ability and the personal character of its engineers.
We look forward to what will be many more years of collaboration with Petersen Engineering.

WinnDevelopment has worked with Petersen Engineering, Inc. on many large-scale historic adaptive re-use projects since 2008, including mill-to-housing and school-to-housing conversions—including the 78-unit Apartments at Boott Mills in Lowell, Mass.
I have always found James and his team to be highly skilled, pleasant to work with, and committed to providing the very best, on-time results for the project. We continue to do exciting new development work with Petersen Engineering and expect to do more together in the future. I recommend the firm highly.

Petersen Engineering has supported Hazen and Sawyer on projects over the last 8 years, including several large scale drinking water facilities. James and his team bring the highest level of technical expertise coupled with a practical understanding and approach to complex challenges.
Petersen takes a holistic approach to projects to ensure that HVAC solutions are developed from the onset of a project and that clients and owners fully understand the real cost and sustainability benefits of these solutions. I have truly enjoyed working with everyone from PEI and would not hesitate to hire them again.

James became board chair of NESEA in 2011 and subsequently became the first board member during my tenure to become a Lifetime Member of the Association.
He is a consummate professional who always holds himself to the same high standards he expects of others. I have seen James interacting with peers and clients in many professional settings, and I hold him in high regard—as do his employees, peers, and clients.
