This transit-oriented 65-unit affordable housing project is being built on a previously developed site within a short walk of the MBTA Orange Line, bus routes, and retail and service options. 1599 Columbus is pursuing Passive House certification through the PHIUS+2018 CORE standard. Petersen Engineering has provided support for the energy modeling to optimize building envelope insulation, thermal and air barrier continuity, and high-performance glazing to drive down heating and cooling loads. Right-sized MEP systems include balanced energy recovery ventilation and a high performance, all-electric central VRF system, and future-ready PV infrastructure. The result: reduced greenhouse gas emissions, low operational costs, enhanced thermal comfort and indoor air quality, and greater levels of resilience.
