Your Role

As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the electrical engineering project processes from bidding and early permitting phase through conceptual and schematic design, design completion and overseeing construction administration support through project completion. When new projects are awarded, you will work with Project Managers and Project Engineers to successfully get the project off the ground and help to define approach, conceptual and schematic narratives and smoothly transition the work to the production team, and provide senior support for all aspects of the project. You will also serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior staff.

Responsibilities

Technical

  • Serve as a technical lead electrical engineer. This includes the ability to act as the Engineer of Record, lead the quality review process of work products developed by others, and lead a team of electrical designers and electrical engineers.
  • Develop and evaluate system concepts and options to determine best design and engineering solution for each project based upon project scope.
  • Develop design drawings and specifications of electrical systems for building electrical, lighting, and fire alarm systems, including preparation of all engineering calculations, equipment selection and layout throughout life of the project.
  • Lead and coordinate with Project Engineers and Designers.
  • Perform systems analysis and prepare reports and studies.
  • Coordinate with other consultants including architect, civil, landscape and structural engineers to ensure electrical systems are integrated with all trades.
  • Act as the client interface representing the electrical discipline on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of industry codes and standards, and develop code analysis reports. Preferred code knowledge includes NEC, NESC, IEEE Standards, energy codes, and building codes.
  • Design for electrical power distribution (medium/low voltage), grounding, lighting, fire alarm, communication systems, etc. for multi-family, commercial, government, industrial, and institutional buildings.
  • Prepare technical reports to define projects and provide clients with technical direction.
  • Attend kick-off meetings, walk-throughs of existing buildings/renovation projects, and site visits as needed.
  • Analyze, design and present technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Understand trends and standard methodologies in the markets in which we work.
  • Participate in the QC process by reviewing drawings and evaluating the need for design changes; make appropriate recommendations.
  • Assist Project Engineer with selection and specification of electrical equipment.

  • Write reports for internal and external purposes based on findings.

  • Responsible for fiscal decision making (proposals, contracts), working with information from Project Managers.

Your Role

With your passion for energy efficiency and sustainability, you will head up our energy modeling efforts and help us build energy modeling capacity within our staff. You will work with our team of MEP/FP engineers to perform energy modeling and appropriate simulation of ground-up new construction and rehab projects. Through these simulations, you will assess opportunities to optimize design, as well as identify any major areas of potentially excessive energy use. Your excellent critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills will allow you to interact seamlessly with our internal design teams and our clients.

 Responsibilities

  • Engage with design teams and both perform and oversee building energy modeling. Recommend opportunities for increased efficiency, improved occupant wellbeing, reduced environmental impact, and system optimization.
  • Perform leadership role with regard to the sustainability goals of projects.
  • Perform detailed analysis using a range of modeling software for a wide variety of project types (multifamily, lab, healthcare, educational, cultural, office, retail, etc.)

Your Role

An excellent manager and technical/discipline lead, you will manage client relationships and incoming requests for proposals, attend preliminary walkthroughs and project meetings, and set up/define initial project goals and schedules. You will help onboard new projects, working with others on the team to launch them, define our approach, and draft conceptual and schematic narratives. You will facilitate the smooth transition of the work to the Project Manager and production team, and will serve as a resource to them, providing support and guidance for all aspects of the project. You will serve as a technical resource to junior staff, mentoring them and building their capacity so that they can continue to expand their skills. This role requires a unique combination of strong technical expertise, a willingness/ability to be interrupted frequently and share that expertise with more junior staff, and the ability to prioritize and reallocate work on the fly, as deadlines and departmental capacity require. While this position will not immediately have direct reports, we are looking for somebody with the aptitude and appetite to take on a departmental leadership role.
